Cory Brown and Molly Shapero had the opportunity to attend  the National Organization for Human Services 2011 Conference with some of the Human Services program faculty.  The conference took place in Texas. Cory and Molly attended sessions and workshops on how to work with other human services professionals. Both Cory and Molly, had the opportunity to be co-presenters.  The conference seemed to be a blast for the two students and the faculty. The Human Services Program is very honored that students are able to partake in this yearly conference.

An enthusiastic crowd attended the Human Services Practicum Poster Presentations yesterday.  Twenty-seven graduating seniors displayed their posters and informally answered questions about their practicum placements.  The posters highlighted their field placement agencies and described students’ experiences there. It was a great event because fellow students and faculty were able to see the variety of interests by our Human Service students.

Audrey Buchanan is the 2011 recipient of the Knapheide Endowed Scholarship for Human Services.  This scholarhips is awarded to a student with junior year status in the human services major who has the highest cumulative GPA in the fall semester of the junior year.

Today parents and faculty celebrated students who were inducted into the national honor society for human services.  The new members of Tau Upsilon Alpha are Cory Brown, Whitney Ellis, Jasmine Gillus, Jennifer Knight, Alli Nestadt, Alli Novak, Danielle Rippetoe, Sarah Schuler, Sarah Shnier, and Sue Yingling.

The Career Architecture Office, the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, and the Human Services Program are partnering with the Sheppard Pratt Health System to offer a 15-credit, five-course Certificate in Human Services for employees at Sheppard Pratt. The program, offered onsite at the main Sheppard Pratt campus, was launched with a kick-off dinner and new student orientation before the first class meeting on Wednesday, January 19.

The first course in the program, Introduction to Human Services, is being taught by Helaina Ebling, Adjunct Professor of Human Services.  Shannon Damario and Claire Merson, both Human Services majors, are providing tutorial support.

Senior Luncheon

In honor of the seniors who will graduate this winter, a luncheon was held at Gigi’s house! Faculty prepared and served the lunch for the students. It was a great time to talk about all the things they have enjoyed in their 4 years at Stevenson in the Human Services Program and what they have planned after they graduate.

Today in the Pavilion were the Senior Poster Presentations! Fourteen graduating seniors presented posters that highlighted their practicum field placement and described their experiences there. It is great to go to this presentation if you are a Human Services major because it gives you an idea what you may be doing when you are a senior and get you thinking ahead of time on where you would like to do your practicum field placement.

The Field Placement of the Semester Award was presented to Harford Memorial Hospital’s Behavioral Health Unit.  Lauren Bauer was the practicum student, and Lynn Kirylo, LCSW-C, was Lauren’s field instructor.
